Child dies in gun accident; Sheriff's Department investigates

On December 2, 2024, at approximately 3:53 p.m., deputies from Rancho Cucamonga responded to a shooting incident in the parking lot located at 8250 Day Creek Boulevard. Upon arrival, authorities discovered that a two-year-old male child had been shot. The child was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigations revealed that the tragic event occurred when the victim and his seven-year-old brother were inside a truck. The older sibling found a firearm in the glovebox, leading to the fatal incident.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the case and will forward their report to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
