Between March 10 and March 16, 2025, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted a series of targeted crime suppression operations under the banner "Operation Consequences." The operation involved the Gangs/Narcotics Division and deputies from various patrol stations. They executed four search warrants across Victorville, San Bernardino, and Colton.
The week-long initiative resulted in significant law enforcement actions. Authorities engaged with gang members and individuals prohibited from owning firearms. Three firearms were seized during these operations, including one ghost gun. In addition to weapons, illegal narcotics were discovered and confiscated. Law enforcement officers made a total of 15 felony arrests and 18 misdemeanor arrests.
These efforts come in the wake of California's Proposition 36, passed by voters on November 5, 2024. Known as “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act,” it aims to reform laws initially established under Proposition 47 that have been linked to rising homelessness, drug addiction, and theft rates. This new proposition became effective on December 18, 2024. It introduces new legal codes allowing for enhanced sentencing in applicable cases and aims to prevent offenders from being released before court appearances. Five arrests during Operation Consequences fell under this proposition.
To support such initiatives, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has allocated additional funds for county-wide crime suppression efforts aimed at addressing quality-of-life issues impacting local communities.
"Operation Consequences will focus on conducting targeted crime suppression operations in the High Desert and the Sheriff’s jurisdiction surrounding the city of San Bernardino," according to information provided by officials. The multi-agency operation includes participation from several law enforcement bodies: "the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, patrol stations, California Highway Patrol," as well as federal agencies like "United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force" and "Department of Homeland Security Investigations."
The operation is set to continue over several months with goals to reduce violent crime rates by disrupting criminal street gangs' activities and apprehending individuals involved in illegal firearm possession and trafficking.
