On March 17, 2025, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy lost his life following a traffic collision in Victorville. The incident occurred when deputies from the Victorville Station attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road. The suspect, identified as Ryan Dwayne Turner, Jr., aged 22 and a resident of San Bernardino, did not yield, leading to a pursuit.

During the chase, Deputy Hector Cuevas, Jr., aged 36, was involved in a collision with another vehicle at El Evado Road and Seneca Road. Unfortunately, Deputy Cuevas succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

After stopping the vehicle at El Evado Road and Zuni Lane, Turner fled on foot but was soon apprehended and taken into custody. The Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident's cause.
