On January 17, 2025, deputies responded to a call regarding a man with a gun at a residence in the 14800 block of Steeplechase Road, Victorville. The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. when Lawrence Harris, a 44-year-old resident of Victorville, was reportedly armed and threatening family members.

Upon arrival, a deputy encountered Harris inside the home holding a handgun. Despite commands to disarm, Harris allegedly threatened the deputy with the firearm. A lethal force encounter ensued, resulting in Harris being struck by gunfire. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation. "The case is ongoing," authorities stated, adding that no further details are currently available.
