On January 11, 2025, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department conducted a large-scale Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) enforcement operation. The event took place from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. across various locations including Juniper Flats, Deep Creek Spillway, Honda Valley, and Big Bear.

The operation was a collaborative effort involving multiple stations such as the Victor Valley Transit Detail, Hesperia Station, Central Station, Morongo Basin Station, and Big Bear Station. Additional support came from San Bernardino County Code Enforcement, State Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S. Forest Service.

The focus of the operation was on addressing illegal and unsafe OHV use within the area and county-wide. Authorities concentrated on improper driving practices and non-compliance with safety equipment regulations while also educating riders about legal OHV areas and safe riding practices.

Throughout the day-long initiative, over 1,200 public contacts were made by personnel. They issued 84 citations for offenses including registration violations, helmet infractions, driving without a license among other off-road related violations.

Three arrests were made during this operation. Among those arrested was an Apple Valley resident found riding a stolen motorcycle who also had an outstanding felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Additionally, one stolen vehicle was recovered; four vehicles were towed due to various violations; and five criminal reports were completed.

The Sheriff’s Department emphasized the importance of responsible enjoyment of off-road areas in compliance with legal requirements.

Sergeant Simon DeMuri from Victor Valley Transit Detail is available for further information at 760-552-6800.

"SHANNON D. DICUS," Sheriff-Coroner of the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department stated that they aim to ensure safety in these recreational areas.
