Death investigation launched after man's arrest in Hesperia

Deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to Lime Street Park on December 7, 2024, at approximately 5:37 p.m. following a request for assistance from Hesperia Park Rangers regarding a trespasser refusing to leave. Upon arrival, deputies found a male subject in a bathroom and escorted him out with the help of park rangers.

The man displayed erratic behavior and did not comply with the deputies' attempts to detain him. After handcuffing the individual, deputies requested medical aid as a precautionary measure. During the incident, the man stopped breathing, prompting deputies to administer CPR until medical personnel arrived. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation into this in-custody death. The decedent's body was sent to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
