Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff's Station responded to a disturbance call on October 14, 2024, involving Robert Brown, a 39-year-old resident of Hesperia. The incident occurred in the unincorporated area of Hesperia at approximately 7:32 p.m. Deputies were informed that Brown had assaulted his spouse and stolen her cell phone before fleeing the scene in his blue Infinity sedan.

Later that evening, around 9:41 p.m., officers from the Hesperia Police Department located Brown's vehicle near Main Street and Topaz Avenue in Hesperia. When deputies attempted to stop him, Brown refused to comply, initiating a pursuit through public streets and onto Interstate 15. The chase extended into Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana before he turned back toward Hesperia. During this time, Brown drove recklessly at high speeds, disregarding traffic signs and endangering public safety.

Law enforcement officers employed various tactics during the pursuit. Despite attempts at using pursuit intervention techniques (PIT), they proved ineffective until spike strips deployed by the California Highway Patrol punctured Brown's vehicle tires. The chase concluded on northbound Interstate 15 near State Route 138 where a lethal force encounter ensued, resulting in gunfire striking Brown. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.

Following these events, Robert Brown faced charges including inflicting corporal injury on a spouse (PC 273.5), robbery (PC 211), and felony evading with disregard for safety (VC 2800.2).

Detective Travis Kleveno of the Specialized Investigations Division is leading inquiries into this case. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to reach out via phone or anonymously through We-Tip.

Sheriff-Coroner Shannon Dicus confirmed these details through an official statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
