On June 18, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., deputies from the Central Station and the Specialized Enforcement Detail attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a residence in the 1900 block of W. Mallory Street in Muscoy, San Bernardino. The subject of the warrant, Fredy Castillo Cabrales, allegedly pointed a firearm at law enforcement officers, resulting in a lethal force encounter (LFE). Cabrales was struck by gunfire and subsequently transported to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation into the incident. Cabrales has been booked into the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on charges of attempted murder of a police officer under PC 664/187. Additionally, he faces charges related to child sexual battery and child abuse based on an outstanding warrant. His combined bail is set at $1,300,000.
