San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus has published a Mid-Term Report detailing the department's progress and initiatives since he assumed office. The report highlights efforts to enhance public safety, support personnel, and tackle community challenges.
"As Sheriff, my priority has always been to ensure the safety and well-being of San Bernardino County residents," said Sheriff Dicus. "This mid-term report highlights the steps we’ve taken to modernize our department, support our personnel, and address the challenges we face together."
Key achievements outlined in the report include advancements in law enforcement tools, improved customer service, an expanded Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) program, and addressing quality-of-life issues such as homelessness, mental health, and violent crime. Sheriff Dicus also underscores the importance of empowering residents for self-protection in a county spanning over 20,000 square miles.
New divisions have been introduced to enhance services. These include a Transit Division for public transportation safety and a Customer Service Unit that allows non-emergency police reports by phone. The Community Service and Reentry Division (CSRD) consolidates outreach efforts for vulnerable populations reentering society or facing homelessness or mental health issues.
"Our department remains committed to delivering effective, modern policing which reflects the needs and values of our community," Sheriff Dicus said. "While we’ve made significant progress, there is still more to do, and I look forward to continuing our work."
The 2024 Mid-Term Report is accessible on the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department website at wp.sbcounty.gov/sheriff. Sheriff Dicus encourages residents to review the report for insights into maintaining safety across the county.
