Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh has formally urged Senate President Pro Tempore Mike McGuire to introduce her Senate Bill during the Second Extraordinary Session. The bill seeks to suspend the state's gas tax, aiming to provide economic relief for California consumers facing high fuel costs.

This move follows Democrat leadership's earlier decision to block the bill from being introduced without consideration. Senator Ochoa Bogh stated, "Californians are feeling the squeeze at the gas pump, and they deserve answers. I sent this letter because I’m fighting for transparency, accountability, and real relief for every family struggling with rising fuel costs." She called for an open discussion on how California's taxes and fees contribute to high gas prices.

Since taking office, Senator Ochoa Bogh has advocated suspending the gas tax as a means of alleviating financial pressure on Californians. As fuel prices rise, she continues to push for measures that would allow residents some respite from increasing costs.

The senator highlighted the importance of addressing rising expenses not only in fuel but also in essential areas like groceries and utilities. The Governor’s Proclamation for a special session examining gasoline price spikes offers a chance to evaluate state-imposed taxes' impact on these issues.

Senator Ochoa Bogh remains committed to discussing state policies' role in exacerbating high gas prices and is prepared to act swiftly. However, despite being introduced in this Extraordinary Session in the Assembly, her bill was not granted a hearing.
