Hesperia man dies after intentional hit-and-run; suspect arrested for murder

On September 14, 2024, at approximately 6:26 a.m., deputies from the Hesperia station responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Cataba Road, north of Main Street. Upon arrival, they found 35-year-old Ricky Kemp unresponsive on the roadway. Kemp was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe intentionally struck Kemp with the vehicle. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, took over the investigation. The involved vehicle was abandoned nearby, and the driver, identified as 44-year-old John Wynn, was located inside a business.

Wynn was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for PC 187 – Murder. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on September 17, 2024.
