On September 2, 2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., deputies from Apple Valley responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of Klickitat Avenue and Quinnault Road. Upon arrival, they found Jonathan Cuevas, a 39-year-old resident of Oro Grande, inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Cuevas was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail took over the investigation. Detectives identified Anthony Lopez, a 35-year-old resident of Apple Valley, as the suspect. According to investigators, Cuevas had arrived at the location to pick up a friend when Lopez allegedly shot him. Lopez fled the scene and remained at large.
On September 6, 2024, around 7:00 p.m., investigators and officers from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force located Lopez in Bullhead, Arizona. He was arrested without incident and booked into Mohave County Jail in Arizona where he awaits extradition.
