On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia station responded to a report of a man down at Main Street and Oakwood Avenue in Hesperia. Upon arrival, they found Walter Martinez, a 44-year-old resident of Hesperia, unconscious with head trauma. Martinez was transported to a trauma center in critical condition.
Through investigation, deputies identified Jose Ramon Gonzalez, a 28-year-old resident of Hesperia, as the suspect. Gonzalez was located at a nearby business and arrested for attempted murder.
On August 19, 2024, Martinez was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division-Homicide Detail assumed the investigation. Gonzalez was subsequently booked for PC 187-Murder.
