The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department will conduct zero-tolerance illegal fireworks suppression operations from July 2 through July 7, 2024. This initiative aims to mitigate the adverse effects of illegal fireworks, which are responsible for brush fires, structure fires, and injuries each year.

"Every year illegal fireworks are responsible for brush fires, structure fires, and blast/burn injuries to adults and children," a department spokesperson stated. The noise and lights from these fireworks also negatively impact military veterans and animals.

The operations will cover all areas within San Bernardino County. Violators will be cited and face maximum penalties allowed by law. Additionally, individuals causing fires due to fireworks usage will face criminal charges and be liable for any resulting damages.

Only "safe and sane" fireworks bearing the California State Fire Marshal Seal are permitted in specific cities: Adelanto, Chino, Colton, Needles, Rialto, as well as designated locations in Fontana, Grand Terrace, and San Bernardino. Possession of any type of fireworks is prohibited in all unincorporated areas of the county.

For more information on fireworks safety or to report illegal fireworks activities anonymously via the We-Tip hotline at 1-800-47-ARSON or contact Sheriff’s Dispatch at (909) 387-8313 (Valley) or (760) 956-5001 (Desert).
