On Saturday, April 13, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in San Bernardino, claiming the life of an adult male. According to reports, witnesses heard a plane sputter and then a loud crash, followed by a red flash in the mountain area north of Devil's Canyon.
Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department confirmed the discovery of a debris field in the mountains where the crash occurred. Search and Rescue department members assisted in locating the deceased adult male at the scene. The identity of the victim will be disclosed after positive identification and family notification.
"The National Transportation Safety Board will respond to the location and conduct an independent investigation," stated Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus.
The search and rescue efforts were challenging due to the terrain, with the Sheriff's Aviation Division facing weather restrictions that initially hindered their ability to assist in the search.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the cause of the plane crash that resulted in the loss of life in San Bernardino.
