Deputies Respond to Unwanted Subject Incident in Victorville Resulting in Lethal Force Encounter

Deputies from the Victorville Station were called to a home on Forest Hills Drive in response to an unwanted subject incident, which tragically ended in a lethal force encounter. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the male subject, believed to be 17 years old, refused to leave the residence and locked himself in a bathroom.

"Arriving deputies began communicating with the male, who had locked himself in a bathroom. After multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation and have him exit, deputies entered the bathroom and attempted to apprehend the male." - San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department

During the encounter, the male produced a knife, injuring one deputy, resulting in a lethal force response from law enforcement. The male was shot and later succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation, with the identity of the deceased to be released once positively identified and next of kin notified. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement officers face in responding to unpredictable situations, ultimately resulting in a loss of life.
