RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA — This week, Rep. Pete Aguilar announced $1 million in federal funding he secured to create a trailhead to protect Cucamonga Canyon, an important public space for Inland Empire residents and nature lovers across Southern California. Currently, residents risk injury when trying to access Cucamonga Canyon because there is no safe and legal path leading into or out of the area. The new trailhead will protect the natural and cultural resources of the canyon, while allowing both the public and first responders safe access to the area.

“We need to make sure Cucamonga Canyon is preserved and protected and, most importantly, that it’s safe for our community,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar. “The funding I announced will help enhance safety for everyone who uses these trails. I am always going to put the safety and security of our communities first, and I’m looking forward to more opportunities to secure funding for great projects like this.”

“We are grateful for the support and partnership of Congressman Aguilar. His significant contributions have helped the City achieve its longstanding goal of reopening Cucamonga Canyon. These improvements will help protect the public by providing a dedicated trailhead and trail for the public to safely enjoy the beauty of Cucamonga Canyon, providing another outdoor recreational opportunity in our region,” said Fire Chief Mike McCliman.

Cucamonga Canyon is located in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone with limited ability for emergency and law enforcement personnel to safely access residents who need their services. Since 2018, there have been 68 calls for service in Cucamonga Canyon.
