Akoma’s Drip’d Squad “Water treatment program” is a direct pathway for careers in Water treatment. This dynamic program also provides scholars hands on learning experiences while teaching real world skills. Akoma has partnered with a local grassroots environmental organization, Peoples Collective for Environmental Justice (PC4EJ) and Assistant Professor of Soil Biogeochemistry of the University of California, Riverside to teach scholars about water, soil, and air quality. This past Saturday, scholars (include Cajon, Arroyo Valley, Indian Springs, Del Vallejo, King, and Paakuma') visited UCR for a "Dirty" Lab/Classroom Tour where scholars tested soil and water samples, and conducted a mineral analysis. This 9-month program have stemmed from youth discussing their interests, observations, and/or concerns around access to healthy food, air and water quality in their communities.
