Kimbark Elementary had its first Lego/STEAM Fest with over 300 attendees. Lego building and engineering teach soft skills shaping how scholars engage creatively. Focusing on Legos building allows scholars to increase their creative thinking, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
The event consisted of 75+ lego displays for scholars, classrooms, and CAPS displays. CAPS established a Bricks Club that fed into this culminating experience. We provided a large play area with Legos for building and exploration for Tiny Humans, snacks, music, and a photo booth. Following the showcase, families joined two STEAM breakout sessions, including Lego building and engineering. Through this experience, scholars developed the following:
Problem-solving, organization, and planning by construction
Three-dimensional thinking
Literacy as kids work with instructions
Lateral thinking in a fun environment
Creativity and fun
Kimbark raffled off 60+ Lego sets from small to extra large. The families were so excited in hopes that this would become an annual event. We thank our Lego/STEAM Fest Committee, PTO, and Dr. Sandra Rodriguez for their contributions to making this event a huge success.
