Rep. Aguilar joins Bipartisan Vote to Suspend US Trade Relations with Russia

5

Rep. Aguilar last week voted to suspend trade relations with Russia and Belarus, part of the continued effort from President Biden and Congress to hold Russia accountable for the illegal invasion of Ukraine.

“Last week, members of Congress heard from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and were deeply moved by his bravery and leadership,” Rep. Aguilar said. “We continue to stand with the people of Ukraine as they fight against Putin’s unprovoked and despicable invasion. Under the leadership of President Biden, Congress has provided an unprecedented amount of economic, military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. We must continue to stand up for democracy and freedom here and abroad and my prayers are with the Ukrainian people.”

Under the leadership of President Biden, America has rallied NATO countries and other allies to impose crushing economic sanctions on Russia. Congress and the Biden Administration have also approved military aid to help Ukrainian forces defend their nation. Last week, Rep. Aguilar helped pass the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 government funding bill which included $13.6 billion in assistance.

Additionally, Rep. Aguilar helped pass legislation to ban the import of Russian oil and energy products into the US, review Russia’s access to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and leverage the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act to impose more sanctions on Russia.

Rep. Aguilar serves as the Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and as a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
