Senator Suzette Valladares has named Sandra Avery as the Senate District 23 Woman of the Year. The announcement highlights Avery's dedication to local causes, contributions to Antelope Valley, and leadership in business and charity work. Avery received her honor on the State Senate floor alongside Senator Valladares.
“Sandra has dedicated much of her life to serving her community through her successful businesses and her generous philanthropy work,” stated Senator Valladares. She added that Avery is "a trailblazing entrepreneur who has distinguished herself in every endeavor she undertakes," noting her support for local philanthropies aiding military veterans, a women's shelter, and other causes.
Sandra Avery was born and raised in Southern California. She lives in Antelope Valley with her husband Bart and their two sons, Brian and Kevin. Her career began as a loan officer before advancing to office manager. Later, she pursued real estate, earning a reputation for being knowledgeable and client-focused. Her commitment to the community extended into charitable work with various organizations.
In 2011, inspired by their son Brian's passion for home brewing, Sandra and Bart co-founded Bravery Brewing Company in Lancaster, California. Since its opening in 2012, it has become popular among craft beer enthusiasts.
Avery's impact on the community includes supporting veteran non-profits like WAVES for disabled veterans. She also initiated "Pizza with a Purpose" at Bravery Brewing to raise funds for local charities.
“I’m deeply humbled by this honor,” said Avery. “Our community is an extremely special place... I’ve always believed that when we lift each other up, we all rise together.”
The Legislative Women’s Caucus encourages legislators to recognize exceptional women annually during Women's History Month each March. Senators acknowledge honorees from each district during an official session ceremony on the Senate floor.
