On June 11, 2025, a visitor at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, California was taken into custody after deputies discovered marijuana in his vehicle. The individual, identified as Joseph Contreras, 19, was found with approximately two pounds of marijuana and related products along with various denominations of U.S. currency.

Contreras is now facing a felony charge for smuggling contraband into a correctional facility. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by detention staff to prevent illegal drugs from entering the jail system. “These efforts are essential to maintaining the safety and security of staff and inmates,” said officials, emphasizing their commitment to reducing drug-related incidents and overdoses within facilities.
