On January 26, 2025, deputies from the Sheriff’s Victor Valley Station responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in Phelan. They found Adan Rodriguez, a 31-year-old resident of Ontario, suffering from a gunshot wound. Rodriguez was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that Rodriguez had been shot at a residence on La Mesa Road before being moved to Cayucos Drive. Initially, the suspect was not located. On February 4, 2025, Rodriguez's condition worsened and he died at the hospital.
The Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division took over the case. Detectives identified Ramiro Liraaro, a 59-year-old Fontana resident, as the suspect. On February 7, 2025, Liraaro was apprehended in Fontana with help from the Sheriff's Specialized Enforcement Division.
Liraaro was arrested and charged with murder under PC 187 and is held without bail at the Central Detention Center.
