In-custody death investigated at West Valley Detention Center

On October 1, 2024, an adult male inmate at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga was found unresponsive in his housing unit around 8:22 p.m. Deputies and medical personnel from the facility, along with emergency responders from the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department and AMR, attempted life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Bureau have taken over the investigation. According to initial findings, there were no signs of foul play. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
