On September 13, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to a residence on the 55500 block of 29 Palms Highway in Yucca Valley for a medical aid call. Upon arrival, they found James Boutwell, a 71-year-old resident of Yucca Valley, deceased inside the home. Investigators determined that Boutwell was a victim of a violent assault.
The Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail also responded to the scene and has taken over the investigation. The suspect or suspects have not been identified and remain at large.
