Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R-Yucaipa) has released the following statement about Proposition 47:

"As someone dedicated to promoting the safety and well-being of our communities, I believe it is crucial for policymakers to work together in a bipartisan manner to create policies that protect all Californians. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Democrat Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire, Republican Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones, and Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher on measures that will help make California a safer place.

"If we are to make impactful change, it is imperative that we bring all stakeholders to the table and not work in silos creating echo chambers that may prove or have proven detrimental to our communities’ safety.

"Having said that, I want to be clear that it is my perspective that Proposition 47 has not had the outcomes that have been beneficial to California. I was grateful to see and wholeheartedly supported Assemblyman James Ramos’ request for the state auditor to review the effectiveness of Prop. 47 to determine whether it had escalated crime rates in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Legislation in Sacramento is primarily based on data. By supporting a full audit, I believe the evidence will provide an excellent foundation to act. We need a holistic and honest assessment of the impact of the proposition’s outcomes, which I believe will only confirm what we already know. The auditor’s report is expected later this year."
