SBVC is kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting Hall of Fame alumna and former Mayor of San Bernardino, Judith Lopez Valles

Judith attended San Bernardino Valley College until 1953 and, after graduating, received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Redlands and her master’s in Spanish Literature at UC Riverside. In 1965, Judith was appointed to the SBVC faculty and went on to head the Department of Foreign Languages, act as Administrative Dean of Academic Affairs, and also produced and hosted a Spanish-speaking TV show, "Impacto," for KVCR-TV. After retiring, Judith never ceased her work in the San Bernardino community. In 1998, Valles established the Valles Family Scholarship at San Bernardino Valley College, and in February of the same year she was elected as the First Hispanic Mayor of San Bernardino
