Between July 7 and July 13, 2025, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department carried out “Operation Consequences,” a targeted crime suppression initiative. This operation involved the Gangs/Narcotics Division, deputies from patrol stations, and personnel from various partnering agencies. A search warrant was executed in Barstow, and suspects were contacted throughout the county. The San Bernardino Movement Against Street Hoodlums (SMASH) Street Enforcement Team also conducted proactive patrols in Hesperia and nearby areas.
During this period, investigators interacted with gang members and individuals prohibited from possessing firearms. They seized one ghost gun and confiscated suspected methamphetamine. The operation resulted in nine felony arrests and 14 misdemeanor arrests.
Proposition 36, titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act,” was passed by California voters on November 5, 2024. It took effect on December 18, 2024, reforming several laws from Proposition 47 related to homelessness, drug addiction, and theft. This proposition introduced new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies can apply during arrests for enhanced sentencing. Two of the arrests made during Operation Consequences applied these new charges.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has authorized funding for county-wide crime suppression to enhance law enforcement services addressing quality-of-life issues in local communities.
Operation Consequences aims to conduct targeted crime suppression operations in the High Desert area and surrounding regions of San Bernardino over the coming months. The operation involves multiple divisions within the Sheriff’s Department as well as collaboration with external agencies such as the California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Police Department, United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Homeland Security Investigations. The focus is on reducing violent crime by disrupting criminal street gangs and apprehending individuals involved in illegal firearm activities.
