Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s H.O.P.E. Team arrested Anthony Powers, a 44-year-old man, following a welfare check conducted on June 2, 2025. The incident took place in the 1200 block of South E Street in San Bernardino and involved a 16-year-old girl.
The welfare check was initiated after Powers accessed housing benefits for himself and the minor, whom he claimed to be his stepdaughter. However, authorities found that Powers could not provide documentation to support this claim. It was discovered that the girl was a reported missing juvenile and there was evidence of a romantic relationship between her and Powers.
During their investigation, deputies found suspected narcotics and paraphernalia in the hotel room shared by Powers and the juvenile. Further inquiry revealed that Powers had been prohibited from contacting the minor under an existing criminal protective order.
As a result of these findings, Powers faces several charges including Child Endangerment – PC 273A(a), Violation of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order – PC 273.6(a), and Possession of Narcotics – H&S11350(a). He is currently held at the Central Detention Center with bail set at $75,000.
