The incident occurred when deputies from the Victorville Station attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road. The suspect, identified as Ryan Dwayne Turner, Jr., aged 22 and a resident of San Bernardino, did not yield, leading to a pursuit.

During the chase, Deputy Hector Cuevas, Jr., aged 36, was involved in a collision with another vehicle at El Evado Road and Seneca Road.
