The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced on April 13 that Operation Consequences, a targeted crime suppression effort conducted from April 13 to April 19, resulted in the arrest of 76 individuals and the seizure of 76 firearms across several communities including Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville, San Bernardino, and Castaic.

Operation Consequences aims to address violent crime and quality-of-life issues through coordinated law enforcement actions. The operation involved multiple agencies such as the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, California Highway Patrol, Department of Homeland Security Investigations, local police departments from surrounding cities, probation officers, parole operations personnel from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and federal investigators.

During this one-week period—which included a focused operation in Hesperia on April 17—authorities served 21 search warrants. The effort led to contact with gang members and people prohibited from possessing firearms. In total there were 43 felony arrests and 33 misdemeanor arrests. Nearly twelve pounds of suspected narcotics—including cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl—were confiscated alongside the firearms. Ten out of the seized weapons were identified as ghost guns.

The department noted that Proposition 36 (“The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act”) passed by California voters in November 2024 has introduced new legal tools for deputies during arrests; two cases during this operation involved charges under these provisions. Funding for Operation Consequences was authorized by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to support additional law enforcement services addressing community concerns.

Shannon D. Dicus serves as sheriff-coroner for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department according to the official website. The department operates a dispatch center handling numerous service calls for over fifteen patrol stations serving more than two million residents according to its official website. It also maintains a historical society museum dedicated to preserving its heritage according to its official website.

Operation Consequences will continue over coming months with ongoing efforts focused on curbing violent crime and disrupting criminal street gangs within both high desert areas and jurisdictions surrounding San Bernardino city.
