The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced on April 20 that investigators seized 31 firearms and made 23 arrests during a targeted crime suppression effort known as Operation Consequences, which took place from April 20 through April 26. The operation involved serving 14 search warrants and contacting suspects in areas including Yucca Valley, Helendale, Phelan, San Bernardino, and Fontana.
Operation Consequences is part of an ongoing effort to address violent crime and illegal firearm activity in the county. The initiative was funded by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to provide additional resources for law enforcement services focused on quality-of-life issues affecting local communities.
During the weeklong period, investigators from the Gangs/Narcotics Division worked with deputies from patrol stations and personnel from partnering agencies. They contacted gang members as well as individuals prohibited from possessing firearms. Eight of the seized firearms were identified as ghost guns. In total, authorities made twenty-one felony arrests and two misdemeanor arrests during this time.
The operation included participation by several agencies such as the California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Police Department, San Bernardino County Probation Department, Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and specialized teams like SMASH Street Enforcement Team (SET). Operation Consequences will continue over several months with a focus on curbing violent crime and dismantling criminal street gangs involved in illegal firearm activities.
