On October 27, 2025, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a man with a gun threatening a woman at a residence on the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive in Rancho Cucamonga. Deputies arrived at approximately 12:37 p.m. and were met with gunfire. Deputy Andrew Nunez, age 28, was struck during the exchange and was later pronounced dead after being airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

The suspect has been identified as Angelo Jose Saldivar, a 47-year-old resident of San Bernardino. Authorities confirmed that Saldivar is not associated with any law enforcement agency and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. “An update will be provided early next week or sooner if new information becomes available for release,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Following the shooting, Saldivar fled the scene and led deputies and other agencies on an eastbound pursuit along the 210 Freeway. The chase reached speeds exceeding 150 mph before it ended near Campus Avenue when a narcotics deputy used a pursuit intervention technique with an unmarked sheriff’s vehicle to stop Saldivar’s car. He was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
