San Bernardino County inmate dies in custody; investigation launched

A 64-year-old man, Caesar Duane Rogers, died while in custody at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center on September 2, 2025. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, nursing staff discovered Rogers had stopped breathing at about 3:15 p.m. A physician responded and pronounced him deceased.

Rogers had been receiving treatment for a serious medical condition since his incarceration in 2023. He was originally arrested by the San Bernardino Police Department on March 18, 2023, for robbery under California Penal Code Section 211 and booked into the Central Detention Center. He was later transferred to the West Valley Detention Center where he remained until his death.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation into Rogers’ death. “Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904. The case is being handled by Detective S. Lenihan and Sergeant N. Craig of the Specialized Investigations Division.
