Rep. Pete Aguilar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 33rd district since 2015, has been vocal on social media about significant national and local issues. Through a series of tweets, he addresses historical commemorations, healthcare concerns, and legislative proposals affecting his constituents.
On June 19, 2025, Aguilar reflected on Juneteenth, marking the day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas. He stated “On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. On Juneteenth, we celebrate the progress we have made as a country and recognize the work that lies ahead in our ongoing quest for justice, equality and freedom for.”
The following day, June 20, Aguilar tweeted about his commitment to defending healthcare access for families in the Inland Empire region. He expressed his opposition to certain policy changes by stating “I’m going to keep fighting for Inland Empire families and pushing back against this dangerous and reckless proposal that goes after health care here in our communities.”
On June 21, Aguilar voiced concerns regarding potential legislation dubbed “One Big Ugly Bill,” associated with Donald Trump and Republicans. He warned of its implications on healthcare facilities nationwide: “If Donald Trump’s and Republicans’ One Big Ugly Bill is signed into law, emergency rooms like St. B’s in San Bernardino are going to fill up and hospitals across the country are going to close.”
Pete Aguilar was born in Fontana, California in 1979 and currently resides in Redlands. He graduated from the University of Redlands with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2001.
