In Rancho Cucamonga, California, a suspect has been arrested following the death of a 10-year-old child due to narcotics toxicity. The incident occurred in December 2024 when deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Station responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive child on Arrow Route. Despite efforts to save him, Nathaniel Castro Mendoza was pronounced deceased.
The San Bernardino County Coroner Division later determined that the cause of death was fentanyl and xylazine toxicity. The Overdose Response Team (ORT) from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Gang/Narcotics Division took over the investigation. Their findings led them to Christina Alvarez, a 32-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga, who allegedly possessed and stored fentanyl in a way that resulted in Mendoza’s death.
Subsequently, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office filed charges of child endangerment against Alvarez and issued a warrant for her arrest. On March 14, 2025, she was taken into custody and booked at West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $100,000.
