Police investigate after Rancho Cucamonga man dies from self-inflicted stab wounds

Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to a 911 call on April 22, 2025, regarding a man who had reportedly stabbed himself at a home on Cameo Street in Rancho Cucamonga. Upon arrival, the officers found Hunter Barry, a 25-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga, with multiple self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck in the backyard of the residence.

Law enforcement reports state that Barry attempted to flee when deputies approached him. The officers followed him, detained and handcuffed him to prevent further harm. “Deputies immediately provided medical aid until Rancho Cucamonga Fire personnel took over,” according to the police statement. Despite the quick response, Barry was transported to the hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Barry’s death. The department plans to conduct an autopsy to identify the precise manner and cause of death.
