Between April 14 and April 20, 2025, law enforcement agencies in California conducted Operation Consequences, an ongoing initiative targeting crime suppression. The operation involved the collaborative efforts of the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, multiple patrol stations, and personnel from several police departments and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
During this period, a focused operation took place in Rialto and surrounding communities on April 18. The execution of four search warrants in Rialto and San Bernardino led to the contact of gang members and individuals prohibited from firearm possession. Authorities made 36 felony arrests and 63 misdemeanor arrests. Additionally, over one pound of suspected narcotics and 13 firearms, including one ghost gun, were recovered.
The operation is partly informed by Proposition 36, titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act,” passed by California voters on November 5, 2024, and effective from December 18, 2024. The proposition reforms laws from Proposition 47, addressing issues like homelessness, drug addiction, and theft. Proposition 36 applied to two of the arrests made during this week’s operation and introduces enhanced sentencing capabilities.
Funding for the crime suppression efforts comes from the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, aimed at bolstering law enforcement services to tackle quality-of-life issues affecting the community.
Operation Consequences will continue over the coming months with a focus on the High Desert and areas within the Sheriff’s jurisdiction around San Bernardino. Its objectives include curbing violent crime, dismantling criminal street gangs, and apprehending individuals involved in the illegal possession and distribution of firearms.
The operation is a coordinated endeavor with several law enforcement bodies, including the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Probation, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
