Between March 17 and March 23, 2025, law enforcement agencies conducted a targeted crime suppression operation known as Operation Consequences. The initiative involved multiple divisions from the Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, and various local police departments including Barstow, Upland, Rialto, Fontana, and Montclair. The Department of Homeland Security Investigations also participated.

During this period, six search warrants were executed in Hesperia and San Bernardino. The authorities focused on gang members and individuals prohibited from possessing firearms. This led to 31 felony arrests and 65 misdemeanor arrests. Additionally, over two pounds of suspected methamphetamine and more than one pound of suspected fentanyl were seized along with 11 firearms.

The operation was partly influenced by Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act,” which was passed by California voters on November 5, 2024. This proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, reforming several laws related to homelessness, drug addiction, and theft. It allows for enhanced sentencing for certain offenses and prevents offenders from being released before their court appearance.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has provided funding to support county-wide crime suppression efforts. This aims to enhance law enforcement services addressing quality-of-life issues within the community.

Operation Consequences will continue over the coming months focusing on reducing violent crime in the High Desert area and surrounding regions of San Bernardino County. The effort seeks to disrupt criminal street gangs and apprehend those illegally dealing in firearms.
