Immediately following Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address, Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R–Yucaipa) released a video message addressing concerns about California’s current situation.
“After years of one-party rule under Gavin Newsom, the results don’t match the rhetoric. While the Governor takes victory laps, families are taking extra shifts,” said Sen. Ochoa Bogh. “While speeches sound optimistic, budgets at the kitchen table don’t add up. California is the world’s fourth-largest economy. We should be doing better.”
Senator Ochoa Bogh criticized the governor’s speech for not addressing issues related to quality of life in California. She referenced data from the Public Policy Institute of California that indicates since 2020, families have seen an increase of about 25 percent in costs for essentials such as housing and food, and around 40 percent more for utilities and gas during Governor Newsom’s administration. She also highlighted concerns about declining economic opportunities and challenges faced by students in California.
“It’s time for less news spin and more results. Less theatrics by leaders and more progress with attainable actions. If we focus on real solutions and real accountability, we can build a California where families don’t just get by, they thrive,” Ochoa Bogh concluded.
