Murrieta woman arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into jail

Maria Pena, a 37-year-old resident of Murrieta, was arrested for attempting to smuggle suspected narcotics into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. The incident occurred on June 25, 2025, when Pena visited the facility.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Pena was observed trying to bring contraband into the jail. Following an investigation by the Jail Intelligence Team (JIT), deputies arrested her at her residence in Murrieta on June 27, 2025.

Pena has been booked for attempting to smuggle narcotics into a jail facility. The case is being handled by Deputy J. Ramirez from the Central Detention Center.
