On June 17, 2025, deputies in Victorville responded to a reported stabbing incident in an open field near Highway 395 and Palmdale Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Dwayne Hartley, a 60-year-old resident of Victorville, with multiple stab wounds. Hartley was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail took over the investigation. They identified Daniel Coleman, a 33-year-old resident of Victorville, as the suspect. Coleman was found hiding in a shed at his residence and subsequently arrested.

Coleman is currently held at the High Desert Detention Center on $1,000,000 bail.
