On February 24, 2025, deputies from the Victor Valley Station responded to a 911 call reporting an attempted break-in at a residence on the 10700 Block of Central Road in Apple Valley. The caller described a Black male wearing black clothing attempting to enter her home. Upon arrival, deputies detained a Black male in the driveway who claimed residency at the location.

As events unfolded, one deputy requested that the caller exit the residence. Three occupants left hastily, followed by Elijah Brown, an 18-year-old resident of Apple Valley, who was armed with a large knife. A lethal force encounter ensued, resulting in Brown being struck by gunfire. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is currently stable.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation. At this point, investigators have confirmed that Brown resides at the incident location but have not yet interviewed him or other involved parties. The investigation remains ongoing.
