Investigation launched after inmate dies at hospital following medical emergency

On April 4, 2025, the San Bernardino County authorities began investigating the death of Larry Shidie, an inmate at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Shidie, 38, was found in distress in his cell on March 30, 2025, and was subsequently taken to San Antonio Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts to improve his condition, Shidie passed away on April 4, 2025.

Larry Shidie had been in custody since March 18, 2025, following his arrest by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station for a parole violation. The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken charge of the case to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on the case to reach out to the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904. Anonymous tips can be directed to We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or via wetip.com.

The investigation is currently under the direction of Detective Joshua Young from the Specialized Investigations Division.

Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus of the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department is involved in the ongoing inquiry into Shidie’s death.
