Homicide detectives investigate double fatal shooting in Yucaipa on April 8

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced on April 8 that homicide detectives are investigating a double fatal shooting in the 12000 block of Bryant Street, Yucaipa. Deputies responded to a medical aid call at approximately 12:15 p.m. and found two men, Stephan James Slivka Jr., age 66, and Rodney (Rody) Lee Chanadet, age 68, both residents of Yucaipa, with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the department’s statement, detectives believe Slivka and Chanadet exchanged gunfire before Slivka died from his injuries and Chanadet shot himself after sustaining a wound. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
