Foster mother in Hesperia arrested on felony child abuse charges

On February 29, 2025, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Crimes Against Children Detail and the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station began investigating a report of child abuse involving a foster child in Hesperia. The seven-year-old victim had been placed in foster care by Los Angeles County Children and Family Services.

The investigation identified Mayra Alvarez De Giron, a 63-year-old resident of Hesperia, as the suspect. Following completion of the investigation, the case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review. On August 1, 2025, felony child abuse charges were filed against Alvarez De Giron and an arrest warrant was issued.

Alvarez De Giron was arrested on August 5, 2025, and booked at the High Desert Detention Center without bail.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims from previous foster care placements. Authorities have released Alvarez De Giron’s photograph and are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Wendy Winegar of the Specialized Investigations Division, Crimes Against Children Detail at (909) 890-4904.
