Detectives investigate inmate death at West Valley Detention Center

Deputies at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga discovered a 57-year-old male inmate unresponsive in his cell on July 26, 2025. Jail staff and medical personnel attempted to provide aid until emergency responders arrived, but the man was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division are handling the case. The cause and manner of death will be determined following an autopsy. The inmate’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
