Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a domestic disturbance in Lucerne Valley early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on the 8700 block of Syracuse Road.
Upon arrival, deputies observed several individuals arguing in the street. As they began detaining those involved to investigate, Sydney Zimmer, a 21-year-old resident of Lucerne Valley, approached holding a shotgun. According to authorities, Zimmer did not comply with repeated commands from deputies to put down the weapon. A lethal force encounter followed, and Zimmer was struck multiple times.
Deputies provided medical aid until emergency personnel arrived. Zimmer was then transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the investigation.
